This super cute detached stone-built cottage is the perfect country retreat if you are looking for an escape from it all and to immerse yourself in nature. The first day I visited it with the owners we sat on the terrace and drank coffee together while stags bellowed at each other across the autumn-tinged valleys around us. We walked to view all the extra land that comes with the property and I enjoyed the opportunity to soak up the ambiente and check out some of the trails straight from the door that lead to local peaks.
Originally a barn, the house was renovated twenty years ago (with planning permissions) to provide a 3 bedroom, one bathroom house. The front door opens straight into the eat-in kitchen, complete with open fireplace, fitted cupboards, cooker, fridge and large dining table. Also on the ground floor is the decent-sized bathroom.
On the first floor there are three bedrooms and a galería, (the typical Asturian corredor), complete with stunning views. The house is in good condition, although, as ever, you will probably want to put your personal stamp on it and modernise some aspects, e.g. the windows are only single glazed.
It sits in a plot of land of approximately 600m2, which is flat in the immediate surrounds of the house and then drops away down to a stream. At the front of the house there is a pleasant terrace and sitting out area. It also comes with the field across the lane, with further space for parking which has been excavated by the current owners as well as plenty of scope for fruit trees and vegetable growing – although do be warned it is steep!
Further along the pleasant camino that traces up the hillside opposite there is yet another field that is included in the sale, this one populated by chestnut and oak trees providing the perfect supply for all your winter-warming needs for the years to come.
Oh, and I almost forgot – it also comes with a separate barn. The barn is actually located in the hamlet itself which is 100m away from the house. The hamlet marks the end of the road, and has no permanent inhabitants although two or three houses are used by their respective families from spring through autumn and/or on an occasional basis throughout the year. As you will deduce from this, there is no passing traffic – apart from once a year when the hamlet plays host to a very special event, a poetry festival which this year celebrated its 16th edition. Founded by a local poet you can check a little flavour of it out on the video I’ve posted below!
The town of Infiesto is approximately 20 minutes drive and the village of Espinaredo is under 10 minutes.
All in all, it’s a rather magical property in a rather magical place.
